DG Acceptance by Sea

This course gives students the knowledge to interpret and apply the International Maritime Organization Dangerous Goods Regulations (IMDG Code) to shipments of dangerous goods and hazardous materials being sent by sea. This is a AMSA approved training course.

Description

Course Content

The course is designed to provide guidance and knowledge in all areas of handling and transporting dangerous goods by air. Including:

  • Understanding of international conventions such as : SOLAS and MARPOL
  • Introduction to International Maritime Organisation (IMO)
  • Introduction to the content and layout and the dangerous goods list
  • Dangerous Goods terminology
  • Australian Dangerous Goods legislation and it’s relation with IMO
  • Shippers responsibilities
  • Operators responsibilities
  • A full description of all 9 classes
  • Classification of dangerous goods
  • Identification (UN numbers, proper shipping names, etc)
  • Dangerous goods in limited quantities
  • Dangerous goods in excepted quantities
  • Packing, marking and labelling and placarding
  • Completion of documentation. (multimodal dangerous goods form)
  • Handling, stowage and segregation
  • Acceptance procedures

Course Recognition

A certificate is issued on successful completion at the end-of-course assessment and the qualification is valid for two years. All participants will be notified of course dates available for recertification to keep your qualification current. Your certification will be valid for 2 years.

If you Classify dangerous goods, Pack dangerous goods, Mark, label and placard, Load/unload Cargo Transport Units, Prepare transport documents, Offer dangerous goods for transport, Accept dangerous goods for transport, Handle dangerous goods for transport, Prepare dangerous goods loading/stowage plans, Load/unload dangerous goods into/from ships, Enforce or survey or inspect for compliance with applicable rules and regulations or Are otherwise involved in the transport of dangerous goods as determined by the competent authority
